Profit on Purpose: The Solution to the Culture Crisis

Have you ever asked yourself “Why am I in business?”

Sure – we all know it’s to make money – to make a profit – and to provide you and those you care about a good lifestyle.

But, if a client, prospect or other stakeholder in your business asked you this question, how would you answer?

Most companies are so firmly stuck in The Technology Age that they’re totally unprepared for the age we’re entering right now – The Human Age – the age where ‘meaning is the new money’ and where doing work that makes a difference matters most.

Companies are spending millions of dollars each year on “change programs” to address their culture issues and to attract and retain the best and brightest people. Our Guest Speaker for this month believes the only way to fix the culture problem is by reorienting both your company and your people towards a higher purpose than profit.

In this challenging and thoughtful presentation, Profit on Purpose: The Solution to the Culture Crisis, Carolyn Tate will reveal:

  • Why a higher purpose than profit is essential to your company survival
  • The three key ingredients to embedding and activating purpose in your people and your company
  • What you can do right now to bring purpose to life in your company and your people

More about our Guest Speaker:

“A bold woman with a big vision to heal the business world, Carolyn Tate shows companies how to fix their culture crisis and keep the best and brightest people.”

In 2010, Carolyn was a burnt out marketer. After a 20-year career at Westpac and Merrill Lynch and in her own business, she’d had enough.

So just like that, she gave it all up. She sold her home, gave away all her belongings and closed her business. Then she took her 12-year old son Billy to live in beautiful Aix-en-Provence in the south of France.

For six glorious months while Billy went to school, Carolyn became a “recovering marketer”. She unlearnt everything she’d ever learnt about business and marketing and she started all over again.

Two books and five years later, she’s sharing what she’s learnt from being on her own journey towards a higher purpose – a purpose that’s embraced the share economy,Conscious Capitalism, B Corporations and the founding of her own purpose-driven business school, The Slow School of Business.

Carolyn has been a professional speaker for more than 15 years. She’s an authentic, highly engaging and no BS speaker and the author of four books; Small Business Big Brand,Marketing your Small Business for Dummies, Unstuck in Provence (a personal memoir) andConscious Marketing (Wiley). Her latest paper ‘Profit on Purpose’ is the subject of her new book to be published in 2017.

Carolyn has been featured in the AFR, BRW, Herald-Sun, The Age, Peppermint Magazine and Slow Living (see media here) and over the years she’s spoken for organisations like Telstra (TEDx), Suncorp, Conscious Capitalism, Westpac, AMP, Microsoft, Mortgage Choice, Tower, FPA and more.
